Construction | We Understand Green Building
"What's
the use of a fine house if you haven't got a tolerable planet to put
it on?"
< Henry David
Thoreau >
What is Green
Building? “Green” seems to be the hot word of our
times. You can hardly open a magazine without seeing an article or
an ad extolling the virtues of being green.
Green
means different things to different people. To some, it means taking
reasonable steps to reduce fuel consumption and lessen our impact
upon the earth. To some, it means ensuring a healthier living
environment for our families. To others, it’s merely a marketing
strategy intended to position them as good guys.
Here’s what green means to us. First and foremost,
it means “high-performance” – a term we actually prefer to “green.”
High-performance building means good, solid, best-practice
construction. It means designing and building intelligently to
create a quality home that’s durable, energy-efficient and safe. And
when you take the care to build this way, you see real
results:
Reduced
energy costs;
Increased
comfort in every room of the house;
Superior
indoor air quality for a healthy living
environment.
We think those
are benefits that any thoughtful person can
appreciate.
Northway
Construction built Minnesota’s first LEED-certified
residence and completed the state’s first LEED-certified whole-house
remodel. LEED certification is the U.S. Green Building Council’s
nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and
operation of high-performance green buildings. We’re proud to be
leaders in green building. We think it’s the right way to
build.
But at the end
of the day, we see green as a fortunate byproduct of our main
passion: building beautiful, high-performance houses. It’s one of
the ways that Northway Construction is building to a higher
standard.
